General, Loft conversion

Loft conversions are hugely popular and you can have them done in a huge range of styles. Today we’re going to share some of the latest trends to hopefully give you some inspiration, and get you thinking about what you could do with conversion

Due to the influence of trendy city living, more and more people are seeing the appeal of industrial style loft conversions. To really channel this trend, think exposed brick walls and metal furnishings. If the brick work isn’t naturally exposed, then you can buy wallpaper which gives the illusion that it is. Wooden floorboards will add the finishing touch. If you’re worried about the room feeling too harsh and cold, add a simple rug and put up an abstract painting or two.

Situated at the top of the house, lofts are the perfect place to create a space which is ultimately cosy. Make use of throws and rugs in warm colours like oranges and reds. In terms of furniture, wood will work well. Having lots of open space will make the room feel barer, so aim to fill it as much as you can with books, cushions, or whatever else takes your fancy.

Completely the opposite to cosy, minimalism is another growing trend. Similarly to industrial style loft conversions, it manages to channel that trendy urban feel, however it also makes for a space which feels very clean, light and airy. Go for wallpaper in soothing shades and go for carpets in cream or white. If you’d prefer a wooden floor, make sure it’s not too dark. Furniture should be kept to the minimum, so concentrate on the essentials. The biggest thing to avoid is clutter.

Black and white together are a classic combination that will make any room look fantastic. To really nail this trend, think black furniture but with white everything else. Black walls can make the space feel closed in, and a black carpet will look downright miserable, neither of which you’re aiming for.

As you can see, a loft conversion doesn’t just have to be practical, it can be your chance to try out a whole new style. Is your loft conversion considered trendy? We’d love to know!
