We’re a month into 2017, and with Christmas and New Year done and dusted, we’re left with lots of time to start thinking about any home improvements we can make. One of the biggest jobs on the list is updating everything to keep it looking fresh. There’s nothing worse than a house that’s left to deteriorate slowly but surely over time. Garages are often the part of the house where we can see this the most. That’s why today’s blog is all about how we can update it so that it can be kept in just as good a condition as the rest of the house.
First things first- tidy out the clutter
We know that you think you need that rusty old lawnmower, but trust us, you really don’t. Same goes for the bike with the wheel falling off! By getting rid of everything you don’t need, you’ll be left with so much more room for the things that you do need. Try to install flexible storage that makes use of the space you have and that keeps things easily accessible but also tucked neatly away.
Refresh your garage door
The door of your garage is visible from the outside, and you want to make sure that it gives your home as much curb appeal as possible. Go for something which looks good but that’s also secure in order to protect everything you keep in there. If you can’t afford to change the door completely, then why not try giving it a fresh lick of paint? You’d be surprised at what a difference this makes!
Update the flooring
There’s no point in having a lovely tidy garage with a floor that isn’t up to standard. If the damage is simply cosmetic, then you might be able to save it by simply giving it a good scrub, but if the problem’s bigger than that, for example if seems uneven in places, then it’s probably a lost cause. The last thing you want is to have to worry about tripping over every time you venture in there to fish something out.
See the bigger picture
If you use your garage just for storage, then why not consider using it for something else as well? Garages are often large enough spaces that you can use them for more than one thing. You could divide off part of the garage for your storage, and then use the rest of the space for something new.
