Contemporary kitchens tend to be functional and practical whilst at the same time looking very modern, just what you need if you’re the type of person who likes their living space to be organised and on trend at the same time. How to create a contemporary kitchenThe only thing you have to be wary about with this type of kitchen is that it will not necessarily remain timeless, but that’s just because contemporary means ‘in the now’. Don’t let this put you off though! Contemporary kitchens are sleek, stylish and sophisticated, and if done correctly, can be the pièce de résistance of your home. Here’s how it’s done:

The main thing to remember is that clutter is a big no. Instead, you need to make sure everything has a place- we’d recommend installing lots of built in storage. You could have corner units to get rid of any dead space, or how about a carousel? Think outside the box and make whatever space that you have, work to your advantage.

Your kitchen cabinets should be streamlined and glossy- think stainless steel in dark grey and white for a look that’s effortlessly clean. The handles of the cabinets should be metallic too – copper can work really well, and it’s also easy to maintain. If you’re not keen on handles, then why not consider getting rid of them completely? You could have them integrated into the design of the cabinets.

Worktops, like the cabinets, should be glossy. We think it works really well if you contrast the colour with the colour of the cabinets, for example, if you have dark grey cabinets, then why not go for a white worktop? Use neutral colours and you can’t go wrong.

Make sure to incorporate other materials as well- wood and stone works really well with stainless steel. Incorporate it into your kitchen table and stools, or maybe your workbench. You could also bring other materials into the mix by tiling the wall- if you’re worried about the room looking too bland then why not try creating a mosaic?

In terms of decoration, you need to make sure that it’s ‘barely there’. The best way to achieve this is through using your light fixture as the centrepiece. Make it quirky and unique so that the eye is drawn to it. You could also use any tech appliances as room features- display that state of the art coffee machine or smart kettle!

Contemporary kitchens are the perfect way to update your home, so why not it give it a try?
